  AEE is joining District Cleanups for a trash clean up at the Bridge District - the site of our recent net-zero tour in June! We will be cleaning near the Atlas Brew Works in the Bridge District near Anacostia metro station. This is a great opportunity to network with others while helping the community!

  District Cleanups will provide the necessary cleanup equipment, although you're more than welcome to bring your own gloves, trash bags, and grabbers. Rain, snow, or shine, we'll plan on getting to the areas that need our attention. 

  Please sign the waiver before the event.

  Registration is not required but appreciated to get headcount and to communicate any updates or changes.

  Dinner Presentation

  The Integration of a Smart Grid and Smart Buildings

  The smart grid is developing and moving forward buildings and the built environment will be interacting more closer with the electric utilities. The communication will be in both directions, with the utility working to balance the grid supply and demand through methods such as signaling requests for demand response measures, real-time price adjustments, etc. This is an evolving field and, while there are some differences in the need for and how a smart grid might function in the various regions of the world, there are some common factors as well. This seminar provides an overview of the smart grid particularly as it relates to buildings and their systems, and includes material and topics outlined in ASHRAE’s Smart Grid Application Guide.

   Eric Yang is Principal and Owner of My Energy LLC, specializing in owner-side design review, energy efficiency, and performance optimization for data centers.  He is a mechanical engineer and sustainability leader with 20 years of experience driving energy efficiency and carbon reduction across data centers, mission-critical facilities, and federal campuses.  He previously served as a Principal Mechanical Engineer at Vantage Data Centers and a Senior Field Mechanical Engineer at Amazon Web Services, where he focused on improving the design, energy performance, and operational efficiency of both new and existing data center facilities.

  Today, he continues to shape industry best practices as ASHRAE TC 9.9 Program Chair and Adjunct Professor at GMU, where he teaches the next generation of data center engineers.
