AEE NCC presents Achieving Zero Carbon, a panel presentation offering three approaches to the shared mission of reaching zero carbon. Hear from local leaders on how AstraZeneca is developing a Corporate Roadmap, Montgomery County is establishing a Government Roadmap, and TRI is converting waste into renewable fuel sources.
 
SPEAKERS
Mike Dieterich is a LEED® Accredited Professional, a degreed environmental scientist, adjunct professor, best-selling author, and award-winning producer. He has written legislative, school, municipal, and corporate policies and developed programs supporting sustainable development and resilience for the built environment for more than a decade.  Mike was called upon by the US Congress Energy Efficiency Forum to discuss energy efficiency applications, and by the United Nations Climate Action Forum to discuss sustainability and resilience and how these initiatives support the Paris Climate Agreement. His efforts have been featured in The New York Times and various national broadcast outlets. His first TEDx talk, “A Zero Energy Water Waste Future,” focused on the future of energy, water, and waste reduction and zeroing in our communities.   His second TEDx Talk “The Time to RISE” focuses on resilience after large storm events.
Bryan Bomer is the Sustainability, Energy and Mechanical Manager for the Department of Permitting Services in Montgomery County Maryland which covers over 500 square miles with a population of appproximately one million residents.   In his current role, Bryan is responsible for the creation, implementation, and dissemination of new Green Building initiatives, programs, and multiple commercial construction codes.  Graduating from The Ohio State University, Bryan has a robust background of building science, sustainability consulting, electric utility program development and is an all-around green building guru.   His professional employment includes the renowned Austin Energy Green Building Program and the nationally recognized Green Building Program at the Washington D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.  His programmatic accomplishments range from code adoption, customized marketing, net-zero program creation, data analytics, rating system development, public speaking and community involvement.  He enjoys camping, fishing, motorsports, and competitive shooting.  Bryan is always available to discuss sustainability and energy savings integration into your project and can be reached at bryan.bomer@montgomerycountymd.gov.
 
Ravi Chandran has been on a quest to “minimize the increase in entropy” ever since he read the Feynman Lectures on Physics. Ravi is CTO at TRI and leads technology development, scaleup and process modeling and is responsible for the intellectual property that forms the basis for TRI’s proprietary technology. Previously, he was the Vice President of Engineering at Manufacturing and Technology Conversion International, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland and prior to that was Research Specialist at Babcock & Wilcox’s R&D Division in Alliance, Ohio. Ravi earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University. He is a member of ASME and AIChE and a recipient of the ASME Melville medal.
