Achieving Nuclear Fusion: A Special Virtual Event
South East Chapter
January 27 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
A world-changing breakthrough.
On December 5th, the U.S. Department of Energy’s team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) National Ignition Facility (NIF) achieved a major scientific development decades in the making.
Nuclear fusion was achieved for the first time releasing 1.5 times the laser energy use to trigger the reaction in their California laboratory. This historic, first-of-its kind achievement is a monumental step toward a clean fusion energy future. These results can lead to a game-changing effect to achieve President Biden’s goal of a net-zero carbon economy.
NIF’s Chief Engineer, Jean-Michel Di Nicola, will join the AEE National Capital Chapter for a presentation and Q&A of the project. Topics will include the experiment, the lab’s history, and the next steps for their team at LLNL.
Mr. Di Nicola will also be sharing his technical insight into optical materials, laser architectures, target fabrication, and target diagnostics enabling their success.
